hmmm...
ok seriously... what in the world makes someone (man or woman... but particularly a man) wake up one morning and say to themselves... "you know, i think i want to be a gynaecologist..."?!

I don't know- but I love, love, love my ob-gyn- he is one of the greatest people I know... I think he was made to be a Obgyn--- I am so grateful for him!

Don't get him wrong, but my dh (as well as all siblings in his family - sisters included) are absolutely convinced that men who go into that profession, or who go into plastic surgery (namely breast augmentation) do it so they can look/play with those things all day. We've had many a heated conversation over that. He thinks my "noble profession" argument is weak.

There are several guys in my ward who are trying to get into OB/GYN residencies right now. From what I've talked to them they really like delivering babies and working with the moms. I think for most the GYN part is just something that comes with the OB. And honestly, I think the part they like about the GYN is the surgeries they get to do. Anyway...enough from a realist perspective...love your blog Janaya!

alison: that's what i was thinking.
melanie: sometimes i wish there was a take home kit and no one really did have to do it.
katie: well then... we all need a name, because i think that great OB's are few and far between.
ashby: plastic surgeons... never even thought twice about why i man would go in to that profession. :)
amber: nice to have the realistic perspective... i just barely went for my yearly torture and i just couldn't stop thinking that the only possible explanation for wanting to do what he was doing was that he must get paid A LOT! :) but that makes sense, 'cause babies are cute. :)

I don't think I could ever use the words Love and OBGYN in the same sentence for ethical reasons....it just feels...wrong :) Probably for the same reason that I refused to see the totally hot new OBGYN at the office a while back- Bring on the old guys and midwives, that I can handle. And I hate to put a damper on Amber's take, but I knew a guy who decided to go into the field- and just knowing him, it was NOT for the OB side of things....EEEW
